Specifying a Directory

You can specify a directory to initialize:

Custom Git Directory Location

If you want to store the Git directory somewhere other than the default .git:

Example 1: Starting a New Web Project

Let's walk through initializing a new web development project:

Common Issues and Solutions

Issue: "Fatal: not a git repository"

Solution: Navigate to your project directory and run git init.

Issue: Accidentally Initialized in Wrong Directory

If you initialize Git in the wrong directory, you can safely remove the Git repository by deleting the .git folder:

This removes the Git repository without affecting your other files.

Issue: Multiple Nested Git Repositories

Having Git repositories inside other Git repositories can cause confusion.

Solution: Be mindful of where you run git init and use git status to check if you're already in a Git repository.
